THE QUEST FOR GOOD LOOKING COMPUTERS

Blame it on Apple. Dunno how they do it, but they make PCs look cool. Place a Low-Yat PC in the living room, everyone will go like "eek..."... Put an iMac there and everyone will go like "cool......". First Apple came out with those translucent iMacs in 1997 and when PC makers tried to copy it, it turned out shit. Then they changed and when for this pearl white look.... and now the Apple higher end line sports silver. And what needs to be said about those savvy iPods????

Anyway, Mel got her iBook this week. Yup. We went to Macasia on Friday and got her spanking new, cutesy iBook. I asked Mel to max her RAM to 640MB to ensure everything runs smoothly. The good news was that her new iBook came free with an Airport Extreme card worth RM399 and she received 10 lucky draw vouchers for the lucky draw at the new Macasia 1 Utama store opening.

I was away in Pahang on Saturday visiting Tasik Bera so I couldn't go with her for the opening. Sadly, she didnt win an iPod and got some gifts like mouse pads, GYM vouchers this weird looking soft-toy which the guy said can be used for cleaning your laptops screen (imaging rubbing the belly of a doggie on ur laptop screen.... huh?)

We both spent some time on the iBook and it really is sooooo nice. I mean you practically want to hug the little thing (which Mel did). Anyways, after all that, Mel didnt really have a budget to buy the Apple mouse. So Sunday we went on a quest to find a PC mouse that can match her iBook. I told Mel don't worry there has to be one. It was TOUGH! All the PC mouses where weird colors and shapes and when something looked good, they had this ugly logo pasted on it. Can you imagine having this Taiwan brand mouse sitting next to your classy iBook.... yuck.

Finally, i spotted one.... It had no branding, it was translucent like an Apple mouse and despite being a 2 button mouse, it had no button cuts.... seamless. Wow. And it costs? RM 27. Yup - unbelievable.

OK, I had to get my PC fix too. I have 2 goals this year for my PC workstation - get the BEST looking PC configuration (Mac-Like) for my video editing suite and get a Mac at the end of the year....

During New Year in Singapore I spotted this cool looking PC desktop - Packard Bell... Piano white, very Mac-like and nice rounded curves. Can be matched with my creature speakers.... Anyway I stumbled on it in Low-Yat. Unbelievable. Dunno where they got it from but they were selling the case. RM120. Can you believe it. So I fitted in a powerful Gigabyte Board and a Pentium 2.4GHz proc with 256MB DDRAM and RM1200 later I had my new editing system (minus the hard drives, DVD-writer etc.)

Hehe. I got my PC fix too. Now I got bigger problems. Finding a matching monitor and keyboard and mouse. Darn. The quest goes on.....
